ADHD Evaluations
Testing to Diagnose ADHD

Comprehensive ADHD evaluations can help determine whether an individual meets diagnostic criteria for Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). However, each person with ADHD is unique and has his or her own set of strengths and weaknesses. Our evaluations are focused on providing information about these strengths and weaknesses and on developing strategies to help adapt to them.

Based on our evaluation, we will also provide recommendations for accommodations in school and on standardized tests (e.g., SAT, GRE). These accommodations may include extended time, testing in separate location, and testing breaks. Our evaluations have been successful in obtaining accommodations from the Educational Testing Service as well as substantiating the need for medication for the NCAA.

Our ADHD evaluations may include:

  • A clinical interview, where we learn about your child’s symptom history and current difficulties
  • A comprehensive examination of underlying cognitive processes
  • An assessment of academic skills
  • Direct computer-based measures of attention and impulsivity
  • Measures of executive functions
  • An assessment of behavior, based on rating scales completed by parents and teachers
Childhood ADHD

One of the most common referral questions that parents have is whether or not their child has ADHD. Symptoms of ADHD can affect a child’s functioning in multiple areas, including academic performance, peer relationships, and behavior at home. Whether your child seems overactive or daydreams often, we will conduct a thorough assessment of your child’s attention problems.

If your child is also having academic difficulties, our ADHD evaluation will examine cognitive and academic skills to determine whether a learning disability might be contributing to his or her difficulties.

ADHD and Medication

Although medication may be used to treat ADHD, it does not work for everyone. Our ADHD evaluations are individualized and so are our recommendations. We recognize that parents and individuals have beliefs and preferences about the use of medication. Our treatment recommendations often include a combination of strategies, including behavioral interventions, psychotherapy, and organizational skills training. We also offer a group skills intervention for adolescents with attention and executive functioning difficulties.
